Membership FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of insurance do hypnotherapists need?

Hypnotherapists need professional indemnity insurance to protect against claims of negligence, errors or omissions in their services. Hypnotherapy liability insurance is also recommended to cover third-party bodily injury or property damage that may occur during client sessions or workshops. Together, these policies provide well-rounded protection for your practice.

Is hypnotherapy insurance required in Australia?

While hypnotherapy insurance is not legally required in Australia, it is highly advisable. Having professional indemnity and public liability coverage helps protect you from the financial and legal risks associated with client claims or accidents. It also enhances your credibility and supports your professional standing within the wellness industry.

What is covered under hypnotherapy insurance?

Hypnotherapy insurance includes professional indemnity insurance to protect you from claims of negligence, mistakes, or omissions made during client sessions. It also includes general liability cover for accidents causing injury or property damage. Additional benefits include coverage for legal expenses, such as legal defence fees, court costs, and professional licence complaint investigations.

Does hypnotherapy insurance cover remote or mobile services?

Yes, IICT Member Insurance covers hypnotherapists working across a variety of settings. Whether you practise from home, a clinic, a client’s space, or offer sessions online, your hypnotherapy liability insurance will provide the protection you need.

What qualifications do I need to join IICT as a hypnotherapist?

To join IICT as a hypnotherapist, you need to provide evidence of completing a recognised hypnotherapy course from an approved training organisation or training institution. Your qualifications should demonstrate the professional capabilities to deliver hypnotherapy services safely to clients.

Depending on your membership tier, a current first aid certificate, supervision hours and continuing professional development may also be required to meet membership requirements. If you trained with an AHA recognised training organisation, your qualifications are likely to already meet IICT’s minimum requirement.

Not sure if your course qualifies? Contact IICT’s support team for further information before you apply.

What is the difference between IICT membership and hypnotherapy insurance?

They are two separate products that work hand in hand. Your IICT professional membership gives you professional recognition, access to business resources and member-exclusive rates on liability insurance. It does not include insurance cover.

Hypnotherapy insurance is purchased separately through IICT’s trusted insurance partners. A professional indemnity policy covers claims of negligence or errors during a session, while a public liability policy covers third-party injury or property damage connected to your business. Your policy schedule will outline your indemnity amount and full coverage details.

Together they give your hypnotherapy practice in Australia the cover and credibility it needs to thrive.

Can I join IICT if I am still studying hypnotherapy?

Yes. If you are currently completing a hypnotherapy course and are not yet fully qualified, you are eligible to join IICT as a student member and access insurance cover while you finish your studies. You must always disclose that you are a student and confirm with your training organisation whether you are eligible to practice during your course. Once you graduate, upgrading to full professional membership is simple and can be done through your member portal at any time.
